Psychologist, Author, Speaker
Hi, I’m Dave Verhaagen!
I’m a licensed and nationally board-certified psychologist, author, and speaker. I co-founded Southeast Psych in both Charlotte, NC, and Nashville, TN. One of the past presidents of APA’s Division of Independent Practice called Southeast Psych “the best group practice in the country.” That’s because we value fun, innovation, creativity, and excellence.
I’ve authored or co-authored eight books with a ninth on the way (more on that soon!), as well as nine book chapters. I write about therapy with young adults, the business of private practice, parenting, and psychology in popular culture.
I’ve had the honor to speak over 600 times to groups of all sizes across the country and even internationally. I speak on many topics to diverse audiences, ranging from The Royal Canadian Mounted Police to the President of Liberia’s senior advisors to large sessions at national professional conferences.
In addition to psychology and writing, I worked for seven years in broadcasting, co-hosting morning and afternoon drive shifts for major market stations. I used those media skills to start a podcast (now on hiatus) that won Charlotte Magazine’s Best of the Best (BOB) Award. I’ve also served as the Executive Director for two feature-length documentaries that were featured on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple TV, and in theaters around the country.
On the personal side, after 24 amazing years in Charlotte, I now live in the great city of Nashville. I’ve been married for 30 years and we have four young adult children, a blind Labrador Retriever, and a neurotic dachshund.
